He was an uncle.

Technically, he still wasn't as his bloodsister wasn't the mother and he didn't have any bloodbrothers, but it was Mel and Zuko and that was close enough, if not, for the moment, closer.

'Cause he was an uncle.

After getting a little tipsy and smokey in 202, Sokka is hopping up stairs to get to a specific room, grinning like a fool the whole way, even while he stands before her door and knocks.

'Cause he's an uncle.

"...Yeah?" Sokka drops his head back to the pillow, head tilted slightly and blinking at her. His fingers curl and hair is played with.

Hopefully, Paige doesn't think she'll ever be allowed to cut it.

"What was his name?"

"Thomas," Paige replies. "Thomas Zebulon Guthrie," she adds, and then laughs a little. The name's-- less then poetic, but hey, she's southern. It can't he helped.

"...I can pronounce Thomas," he tells her helpfully. The other one is-- very strange. Pet, pet, pet. "What if it's a girl?"

This non-existent child of theirs.

"Well, mama's name is Lucinda but I've never been fond of it -- and we just got a Louise delivered, so..." That'd be a little repetitive. "I'm not really sure."

He shifts a little beneath her, one hand going to her hip to guide them both to more comfortable lounging - but the other stays threaded in her hair. "Does everyone name their kids after family members where you're from?"

Since she seems to want to stick to her parents' names.

"It's very common," Paige says as she looks over. "To honor our famlies with the same names. There's heritage and memory, and how we keep people alive... within out kin."

She tilts her head. "You don't do it?"

"Uhm..." He grins a little, sheepish, and goes back to petting. "...It's kind of bad luck for my people. Like... if you name the baby after a living relative, the older one will... um... die."

But he pets! PETS!

"Supposedly! I'm sure it's crap, really."

"Well, my papa's already dead, so he can't get any deader, Sokka," Paige points out logically. "But I can see how that'd be bad."

"Well, then the baby would get all the bad luck he did in li-- ...I'm gonna stop talking, okay?"

Less talking, more kissing. Enough to kiss worries away and then dropping back down and getting arms around her.

"...I like Thomas."

There's patting, and hair petting, but no eyerolling.

"Thomas is okay, but we can think of somethin' else. What would you name a baby?"

See, change of direction! BACK TO YOU SIR!

HIM, O NO.

Not being a girl who thinks about these things often, Sokka frowns thoughtfully. "I dunno... boy or girl?"
